Primer, Primer, Primer...

This morning I started priming in the big room.  I used a long extension pole because the ceiling is 13 feet high in this room and I don't like heights.  Its not so much that I'm afraid of heights as I am afraid of the sudden stop at the end of the fall.

SWMBO Jr did a great job of cutting in this room for me.  At lunch I had to run to the store to get a third 5-gallon pail of primer and she started looking at paint colors for "her" bedroom.

When we were at the paint store there was another customer who was finishing her transaction.  When the clerk told her the total bill (for a gallon of  paint), she started whining about how she thought paint was $10 a gallon.  In my dreams!  But then I don't buy junk paint.  I don't mind painting, but I really don't like re-painting, if you get my meaning.

It took me most of the day to get three of the four walls done. Hopefully tomorrow I can finish the last one.

Still Playing in the Mud

Most of the mudding is done.  Or at least enough that I can start priming in the big areas.

Life is getting in the way a bit so it's going slower than I'd hoped.

The bedroom has a first coat of primer.

And I have the ceiling and a third of the walls in the hallway done as well.

That's all the further five gallons of primer will go on fresh drywall.

I would be remiss if I didn't give a shout out to The Little Man - he's doing a bang-up job on cutting in for me.

New Attic Bathroom - Part 2

All the tile is installed and grouted.  And the niche is finished as well.

We'd picked out a base tiles to run around the perimeter of the room, but didn't realize its top edge wasn't finished.  Instead we'll be installing a wooden base molding.  Not the end of the world.

Now we're just waiting on the final coats of mud and I can start priming in here.

The New Attic Bathroom - Part 1

Enough stuff is happening that it's time break this up into separate threads.

When I got home tonight, this is what I found.

Compare and contrast this floor with the old floor in the attic bathroom.  Much nicer, I'd say.

The new bathroom is in the same location, but the new one is ever so slightly larger and the layout is also going to be slightly different.  The old layout was was perfectly functional for the servants, but it was a little wonky.  The only lights in the room were attached to the medicine cabinet which was on the left wall behind the door.  It made shaving quite an adventure when we were doing the kid's bath.

Rather than being an in-swinging door, the new one will be a pocket door - pocket on the right edge of the picture.  The door is one that was re-purposed from elsewhere in the house.

The floor tile is a variation on a traditional hex pattern.  The shower wall tile is a traditional subway tile with a decorative strip at eye level.  The niche will get tiled as well.

We're also intending to re-install the attic bath's toilet and use the pedestal sink that used to be in the master bath.

This Is Not A Big Ball Of Mud

Day by day the stack continues to get smaller.

More finds its way to the walls and ceiling.  Sometimes it feels like you've walked into a tropical greenhouse with all the moisture in the air as it dries.

The big wall and its "cuddle nook" are taking shape.  And you can really get a sense of what the space is going to be like.

Especially around the dormers that overlook the Cathedral.  It will be a cool view when Red Bull's Crashed Ice is here in a few weeks.
